Speculation that Cumberbatch is playing an updated version of Gary Mitchell has been ongoing for several months, but today’s release of the top photo above, which directly parallels one of the setups in the original Star Trek episode, “Where No Man Has Gone Before,” makes it difficult to think that Cumberbatch is playing anyone other than Mitchell. Or perhaps it’s just an homage.
